I’m older single lady who work 2 jobs, but managing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is important part of my life. I hope you noticed that I didn’t call it my RA, as I refuse to make it something that identify me or dictate how I perform in life. It is only another challenge added to my list for things to manage on my journey. Since I was diagnosed with the condition more than 10 years ago, I never stopped learning, researching and experimenting.
I didn’t want to be an expert on the disease; I only wanted to be expert on my own body and how it deals with this it. I read so many books, listened to multiple experts and attended endless seminars and retreats, which lead me to this conclusion: The best functional medicine physician, most popular nutritionist and the brilliant exercise coach can help me within limits.
The optimum help I can get is from putting all their knowledge and expertise together and color it with my own experience.
Books, web sites and the most knowledgeable practitioners can only show me the basics and the rules according to the text books and their experience with their other patients. The only one who can actually tell me how these roles apply to my own body and what trend of treatment and life style will help me stay in remission longer is me.
I’m not denying that experts had taught me plenty and for that I’m eternally grateful. I clearly understood when they are very good in what they do; they can’t know my body intimately as I do.
With this realization I started my pass; I took the knowledge from the experts and applied it to my own unique condition. All I needed is few pencils, cheap not book and good observation
If you look on my book shelves, you will find all the good books about autoimmune diseases that written by wonderful experts like Susan Blum MD, Izablla wentz PharmD, FASCP, Terry Wahls MD etc..
What you will find in common in all these books is the personalized comments and my experience with their recommendations.
So if you are serious about accomplishing remission, look at your priority list and make a place for managing your condition. If you need help on learning where to start, reach out many people who started before you are willing to hold your hand and show you the way.
